District 7720

All Club President’s in District 7720 are asked to initiate a local 4-Way Test Essay Contest for 7th and 8th grade students in their local school districts. Public and private schools should be encouraged to participate. Please recruit an Essay Contest Chair in your club and share the following information for this year’s Contest.

This year’s theme is: “How Can The 4-Way Test Make A Difference In My Life?”

For over sixty years Rotarian's have been using the 4-Way Test as a practical yardstick in their business, community and personal affairs. The Four-Way Test has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways. It asks the four questions, requiring the user to provide the answers.

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The purpose of the 4-Way Test Essay Contest is to foster ethics in everyday life. The contest is designed to introduce students to the Rotary principles of ethics and service, as well as to involve local Rotary Clubs with the youth of their communities. It is aimed at encouraging young people to learn to express themselves through writing their opinions. In nearly every profession, the ability to express one’s thoughts and ideas clearly, concisely, and persuasively is an important skill.
